There has been a tradition of viticulture in the Sabathi family since 1650 with the oldest ascertainable ancestor and progenitor Jerg (Georg) Sabathi. The Sabathi generations operated a winegrowing business with a vine nursery and mixed agriculture at the Pilchenhof until 1914 and at the Knappenhof in Sernau until 1938. In 1938, grandfather Johann Sabathi sold the reality of Knappenhof and, together with his wife Ludmilla, acquired the present ancestral home of the Erwin Sabathi family in Pössnitz.
