Blaufränkisch Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben 2021

Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben is a selection of the oldest Blaufränkisch vines (between 85 and 110 years old) from the best sites across the mountain in Lutzmannsburg. This is a plateau, a kind of high plateau. Here the Blaufränkisch is dark and full-bodied. The red berry and mineral brilliance of the Lutzmannsburg site brings a touch of Chambolle-Musigny to the aroma. Be patient with it. Gripping secondary fruit on the nose: Forest floor, black bread, liquorice, maggi herb and ethereal nuances, but fruity notes also come through: Blackberries, plum jam. A tight texture on the palate with (still) powerful tannins, earthy extract, matching acidity, fine herbal spice, complex and nuanced, mineral finish.

Description

Moric Winery. Founded in 2001, the winery now covers 22.5 hectares of vineyards in central Burgenland and the Leitha Mountains. Roland Velich makes wines primarily from the Blaufränkisch grape variety, which unmistakably show one thing: their origin, Burgenland. Unique terroir, ancient vines, low yields, open mash fermentation with spontaneous yeasts and ageing in large wooden barrels result in wines that herald a new red wine era in Austria. The 2009 vintage of Blaufränkisch Neckenmarkt Alte Reben was the first Austrian red wine to achieve 95 Parker points and drew international attention to this previously unknown grape variety.
