Sassicaia 2008

Tenuta San Guido

Sassicaia 2008

Actually, the Sassicaia was never supposed to come onto the market. It originated as an experiment. In 1944, Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, scion of a Piedmontese noble family, was the first to plant the Bordeaux grapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet franc in the village of Bolgheri in Maremma. They felt right at home in the warm south of Tuscany. The wine was intended as an everyday drop for family and friends. But son Nicolò, the current patron of Tenuta San Guido, urged his father to introduce the Sassicaia to the public. In 1968, the wine was put on the market for the first time.
