Description

Moric Winery. Founded in 2001, the winery now covers 22.5 hectares of vineyards in Central Burgenland and the Leitha Mountains. Roland Velich makes wines primarily from the Blaufränkisch grape variety, which show one thing unmistakably: their origin, Burgenland. Unique terroir, ancient vines, low yields, open mash fermentation with spontaneous yeasts and aging in large wooden barrels result in wines that usher in a new red wine era in Austria. With the 2009 vintage of Blaufränkisch Neckenmarkt Alte Reben, an Austrian red wine achieved 95 Parker points for the first time and drew international attention to the previously unknown grape variety.
