Chateau du Retout 2018

Chateau du Retout 2018

Purple garnet with black centre and violet rim. Dense blackberry bouquet with blueberry jelly and chocolate notes behind. On the full-bodied palate with soft texture, sweet extract and perfectly mature, slightly mealy tannins. The aromatic finish with lots of plum (skin), cassis and dark noble wood, ends with a delicate astringency. Proves again this year that it rightly belongs to the best Cru Bourgeois.

Description

Chateau du Retout
Chateau du Retout was created in the 1950s by the merger of two vineyards in the Haut Medoc. The original vineyards Chateau Retout Pineguy Mercadier and Chateau Salva de Camino had been abandoned as a result of the phylloxera plague and the vineyards were in a correspondingly disastrous condition. In the 1950s, the Kopp family began to rebuild the chateau vineyard by vineyard.

Eyes: The grape varieties and soils of the Médoc produce magnificent, dense, dark colours ranging from dark garnet to ruby red, evolving into roof-tile notes with orange highlights.

Nose: A very intense bouquet with expressive, powerful aromas of dark fruits, blackcurrants and blackberries. Older wines develop a spicy bouquet with notes of liquorice, leather and marshmallow mingling with aromas of vanilla and wood.

Mouth: Harmonious, elegant and supple. Very round tannins from the attack to the finish. Wines that impress with their aromatic persistence and volume.

Vines: Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 28.5%, Petit Verdot 11.5%.

Matches: Great companion to braised meat, entrecôte, rump steak, black truffles and côte de bœuf. Also suitable with lamb gigot, confit de canard and hard cheese.

Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.

Origin: France / Bordeaux
