Benjamin Leroux
One of the most famous and best white wines of Burgundy and also of the world, made from pure Chardonnay grapes. It comes from the Côte d'Or area (in the Côte de Beaune part) from the famous Corton vineyard. This vineyard is shared by the three villages of Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Ladoix-Serrigny. The first owner was Emperor Charlemagne, at whose instigation the vineyard is said to have been planted, which is why the wine is named after him. According to legend, the ruler gave the upper, chalk-white part of the vineyard to the Abbey of Saulieu in 775 as compensation for destruction by the Saracens.
