Chateau Potensac 2014 Doppelmagnum

Located north of Saint Estephe in the no man's land of the Medoc peninsula, Chateau Potensac has long been an absolute insider tip among Bordeaux devotees. Potensac has been under the direction of the highly respected Bordeaux family Delon, who are also owners of the famous Chateau Leoville Las Cases from St. Julien and Nenin from Pomerol, since the 1970s. With the help of jack-of-all-trades Michel Rolland, Chateau Potensac and its current owner Jean-Hubert Delon produce wines of impressive consistency despite its northern location. Potensac always seems a little edgy when young, but after a few years of cellar ripening it unfolds its enormous potential in terms of complexity, harmony and structure. This Cru Bourgeois of Cru Classé level is ideal as a food companion.

Popis

Potensac 2014 chose 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc for the blend this year. The harvest took place between 25 September and 10 October for the late-ripening grape varieties. This Médoc presents with a lot of charisma its Merlot, which has suffered neither from over-ripening nor from drought. On the nose, one discovers notes of black fruits and spices, it is dense and promising. In the mouth, it shows a very straightforward character and builds around solid and perfectly extracted tannins that will refine with ageing. On the tongue it is fleshy and juicy with a strong character. It is a true success from this appellation, considering the sometimes difficult weather conditions, which were not always mild at the moment of harvest, but turned out very site-specific.
