Valbuena, the second wine of the Vega Sicilia Unico and named after the village Valbuena de Duero, where the producer Vega Sicilia is located. Valbuena saw hard times at the beginning of the nineties, when a much cheaper and less complicated wine from Vega Sicilia came onto the market with Alion. The positioning of the wine was unclear and the quality fluctuated. The winery reacted to this and made better selections, especially in the vineyard. From the 1998 vintage, the Valbuena is interesting again, numerous improvements in the following years have given the wine more profile and since 2009 at the latest, the Valbuena is playing in the Champions League again.
