Bodegas Vega Sicilia is the icon of Spanish viticulture par excellence. Decades before others seriously pursued viticulture in the Ribera del Duero, world-class wines were vinified on the Vega Sicilia estate in Valbuena de Duero, directly on the N 122 road. The oenologist at Vega Sicilia from 1968-1998 was Mariano García, who today oversees the wines of the Aalto, Mauro and San Román estates. Since 1998, Xavier Ausas López de Castro has been responsible for the entire spectrum of Vega Sicilia (Único, Valbuena, Alion, Pintia).
