Merlot Altenberg Reserve 2016

Merlot Altenberg Reserve 2016

The Merlot Altenberg from Pittnauer has international class. A child of the Gols sun. Already beautifully inviting thanks to minimal sulphurisation. Charming, demanding and expressive. Fine ripe red-fruited aromas, pepper and sweet herbs perfection woven into a dense, stable texture. Balanced and persistent. Remains impressive on the palate for a long time. A wine with an incredible future.

Pittnauer Winery
The winery is located in the municipality of Gols in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). At the beginning of the 1990s, the winery was taken over by Gerhard and Brigitte Pittnauer. The vineyards cover 18 hectares in the Altenberg, Fuchsenfeld, Haidboden and Rosenberg vineyards. The red wine varieties St. Laurent, Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon are cultivated to 95%, as well as the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Welschriesling. Gerhard Pittnauer is regarded as the Austrian specialist for St. Laurent, his lead grape variety.

Nose: finely spiced underlaid ripe plum fruit, delicate blackberry jelly, chocolate, herbs, candied orange peel. Dark, almost opaque ruby garnet, delicate violet rims.
Tongue: elegant, juicy, very good complexity, hides its muscles behind silky tannins and sweet fruit, freshly structured, cherries in the finish, already accessible, a fine food companion.
Grape variety: Merlot / Blaufränkisch

Origin: Austria / Burgenland / Region Neusiedlersee
Alcohol content: 13,5% vol.
Contact: Weingut Gerhard und Brigitte Pittnauer, Obere Hauptstrasse 86, 7122 Gols, Austria
