Château Montrose is situated in a magnificent riverside hilltop location above the Gironde estuary in the commune of Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The name means "rose-coloured mountain" and derives from the colour of the iron-rich soil. In the Bordeaux classification of 1855, the estate was ranked second (Deuxième Cru Classé).
