Pinot Noir Spätburgunder Alte Reben 2017

BERNHARD HUBER

Pinot Noir Spätburgunder Alte Reben 2017

The Spätburgunder Alte Reben from Huber is a site selection from the Große Gewächslagen and is aged for 18 months in barriques after harvesting, 70% of which are new barrels. The nose is rather taut with a lot of spice: Sage, cardamom, sloes, but also strong floral notes like violets and hyacinths, smoky and intense. On the palate, again a lot of spice, blue-fruity, also some eucalyptus, very elegant acidity, a hint of fruit sweetness in between, before a fine granular tannin with very delicate toasted notes with dark chocolate takes command and gives the wine its backbone. A powerhouse that needs a lot of air or a few more years in the bottle to show its full potential.

The harvest of this Spätburgunder "Alte Reben" comes from vineyards that are between 20 and 40 years old. These vines are cultivated on small terraces in a steep, climatically very favourable south-west basin. Here, on these plots of the Bernhard Huber vineyard, we find the same geological terroir as in Burgundy, the "shell limestone weathered soil".
