Admiral 2015

The Admiral has been around for 30 years. Named after a butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) native to the vineyards, it was initially vinified as a single-varietal wine. For many years, however, the Admiral has been a cuvée, based on Zweigelt and refined with varying proportions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, depending on the vintage.

Description

Grape varieties: 55% Zweigelt, 30% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate rim brightening. Fine noble wood note, a touch of cardamom, black cherries, plums, candied orange zest, inviting blackberry confit. Powerful, ripe cherries, present, supporting tannins, fine acid structure, mineral and adherent, will need a few years of bottle maturity to develop.
