La Cueva del Contador 2016 is a single varietal cuvée made from 91% Tempranillo, 9% Garnacha. This great red wine from Bodega Contador, born from the talent and genius of Benjamin Romeo, is the result of blending different parcels of vineyards near the municipalities of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Briones in northern Spain.
The finesse and complexity of "La Cueva del Contador" 2016 brilliantly illustrates all the typicality of the great clay-limestone, silt and alluvial soils of La Rioja. La Cueva del Contador is made from 35 to 55 year old vines, which are subjected to rigorous selection both in the vineyard and in the winery. At the price of a very low yield per vine, the grapes reach perfect maturity, with a beautiful aromatic concentration and excellent tannic and phenolic potential. After a 3 to 4 day cold maceration, fermentation takes place over a period of 8 to 9 days under thermal control between 21 and 24°. La Cueva del Contador 2016 is then aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels.
Incredibly fine nose. Red and black fruits, very spicy. Mineral and balsamic. Fine elegance on the palate, very fresh and balanced. Great toasted notes. With a very powerful and long finish.

Pairing recommodation: pairs well with Beef, Lamb, Veal, Poultry. Serve at 16 - 18°C.
