MAISON M. CHAPOUTIER

Gigondas AOC 2020

The powerful Gigondas M. Chapoutier shines into the glass with a dense purple color. Swiveling the glass, this red wine reveals a high viscosity, evident in strong church windows at the rim of the glass. This powerful red wine from France is cuvée from the grape varieties Cinsault, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. The grapes grow in optimal conditions in the Rhône Valley. This French cuvée reveals wonderfully expressive notes of blueberries, black currants, blackberries and mulberries in the glass. These are joined by hints of dark chocolate, oriental spices and cinnamon.

The M. Chapoutier Gigondas impresses with its elegantly dry taste. It was bottled with exceptionally little residual sugar. This is a real quality wine, which clearly stands out from simpler qualities and so this Frenchman enchants naturally with all dryness with the finest balance. Aroma does not necessarily need a lot of sugar. This dense red wine is full-bodied and multilayered on the palate. In the finish, this youthful red wine from the wine-growing region of the Rhône Valley finally thrills with considerable length. There are again hints of blackberry and mulberry. In the aftertaste, mineral notes of the soils dominated by sand and marl are added.

Popis

The story began with Michel Chapoutier, a unique man with a thirst for knowledge, definitely one of a kind. Michel is openminded and always willing to learn. He seeks to discover and reflect the full potential of his terroirs and let the soils express their true character. That which gives the wines their signature style. This now forms the basis of the M. CHAPOUTIER ethos and our team strives to reveal the very best of what the soils have to offer.

The vines here dig their roots deep into soils of clay, sand, limestone and marl. Gigondas is an Old World wine through and through, as this Frenchman exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. When perfect physiological ripeness is assured, the grapes for Gigondas are harvested exclusively by hand without the aid of coarse and less selective grape harvesters. After the hand harvest, the grapes arrive at the winery by the fastest route. Here they are selected and carefully crushed. Fermentation follows in stainless steel tanks and large wood at controlled temperatures. The fermentation is followed by aging for several months on the fine lees before the wine is finally bottled.
